CNCPTS and New Balance have teamed up again to release the 997 “Montage”, a sneaker with a ’90s grunge and DIY-inspired design. It’s a departure from their previous tonal releases, and focuses more on the raw and creative vibes of the early ’90s.
The Montage design features intentional scuffing on the midsole to give it a worn-in look. There are also marker-style details that look like they're hand-drawn, inspired by zines and artwork from the grunge era. The textures and colors are varied, fitting the name “Montage,” while the exposed tongue gives it an “unfinished” look.
One of the most unique details is the different appearance of the N logo on each side. On the lateral side, the smoky and weathered finish resembles old analog media. On the medial side, the former is more dark and solid, symbolizing the continuous evolution of the 997 silhouette.
To purchase, there will be an online raffle for in-store pairs starting December 9. This will be followed by a limited online release on December 11 on the official CNCPTS website.
