The MRT-3 glitch yesterday morning caused major inconvenience to thousands of passengers after the train stopped around 5:56 a.m. between Santolan and Ortigas Avenue stations. As a result, several trains were unable to operate normally.
The DOTr implemented provisional service at 6 a.m., with five trains operating from Shaw Boulevard to Taft Avenue. Some passengers were forced to walk on the tracks to Ortigas station while being assisted by MRT-3 staff.
It took almost an hour before the affected passengers were finally rescued and transported to a safe place. While the malfunction was ongoing, operations between Shaw and Taft were limited while the maintenance team conducted safety checks.
According to the MRT-3 management, they immediately worked to restore normal travel in a safe manner. The entire line was back in operation by 8 a.m., and as compensation for the inconvenience, they offered free rides for the entire day.
Due to the malfunction, queues at EDSA Carousel bus stops also lengthened, and many were forced to try other means of transportation such as buses, motorcycle taxis, and ride-hailing services.
