The call from an Israeli minister comes after Zohran Mamdani won the election as New York's first Muslim mayor. According to Amichai Chikli, Minister of Diaspora and Combating Anti-Semitism, Jews in New York should consider moving to Israel because he believes Mamdani is a Hamas supporter.
Mamdani, 34, is a Democrat and socialist who is known for his defender of the Palestinians. He has also recently expressed his opposition to the anti-Semitism and Islamophobia he has experienced.
According to Chikli, the city that was once a symbol of freedom seems to have changed. He added, “New York will never be the same for Jews. I invite them to renew their lives in the Land of Israel.”
This was agreed by Itamar Ben Gvir, Minister of Security, who said that Mamdani is a “supporter of Hamas and an enemy of Israel.” Even Avigdor Lieberman called the new mayor a “populist and radical Islamist.”
Despite the criticism, Mamdani won against big businessmen and critics, including former President Donald Trump, who called him a “Jew hater.” Despite this, Mamdani remained steadfast in his beliefs and call for equal rights for all.
