Former Speaker Martin Romualdez could face a complaint for alleged gross negligence after appointing former congressman Zaldy Co as House Appropriations Committee chair. According to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, Romualdez should be held accountable because he was the one who selected Co for the position.
Remulla said that Zaldy Co was involved in the alleged insertions or additions to the 2025 national budget. Co denied all allegations, calling them “pure lies.”
Romualdez resigned as Speaker in September to pave the way for an investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects. He insisted that the issues linking him to the alleged kickbacks were fabricated.
Remulla also mentioned that Senator Chiz Escudero is currently being investigated due to reports of money trailing him. Also included in the investigation is the Villar family in connection with the Las Piñas-Bacoor River Drive projects, where benefits are said to have been received for the beautification of the area.
According to Remulla, they will file a case on November 11 against those involved and benefited from flood control projects. Meanwhile, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure said they discovered “total connivance” or collusion among government officials, congressmen, and DPWH.
