President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called on citizens to maintain peace during the upcoming Trillion Peso March on November 30. He made the announcement while in Busan, South Korea, after public anger over alleged billion-peso corruption in government flood-control projects.
According to Marcos, he understands the anger of the people but is concerned about the possible chaos caused by “agitators.” “What we fear are those who want to cause chaos. Those who are carrying Molotov cocktails, it is obvious that their intentions are not peaceful,” he said.
Marcos also urged everyone to avoid violence during protest actions. “Put that out of your mind. Nothing will happen if you cause trouble. Someone will only get hurt—be it your colleagues or police officers who have nothing to do with it,” the President added.
Since October 10, the Trillion Peso March has been holding weekly anti-corruption protests, in preparation for the big gathering on November 30.
Meanwhile, the police assured that they are ready to be vigilant to prevent unrest like what happened on September 21, where two people died and more than 200 were arrested in the riot that took place in Manila.
