The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has secured support from manufacturers to not raise the prices of basic goods until the end of the year. According to Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, all manufacturers have agreed to maintain the current prices of basic goods.
According to the DTI, this step is in response to President Marcos' directive to keep essential goods affordable this holiday season. The agency is also continuing to coordinate with manufacturers and retailers to ensure that the suggested retail price (SRP) of the products remains the same.
basic necessities include canned goods, milk, coffee, bread, noodles, salt, laundry soap, bottled water, and candles. Meanwhile, prime commodities include canned meat, condiments, bath soap, and batteries.
Roque also said that talks are still ongoing with the makers of Noche Buena items such as pasta, ham, and cheese. “We are still in talks with them, and we will inform the public next week,” he added.
The DTI encouraged consumers to report any overpricing or violations to the DTI Consumer Care Hotline (1-DTI or 1-384) or to the email consumercare@dti.gov.ph and ReportToSec@dti.gov.ph.
