Corruption and ghost projects are considered “real horror stories” this Halloween, according to Gabriela Party List Representative Sarah Elago. She said the government is full of “trick or treat”—tricks for deception and treats for vested interests and contractors. She added that the only way to stop the “monsters of corruption” is for citizens to act together.
Meanwhile, ACT Teachers Party List Representative Antonio Tinio said that this Undas, corrupt officials should be afraid because the people will not stop calling for justice. According to him, “the corrupt should be terrified because the people will not stop them.”
Akbayan Party List Representative Percival Cendaña agreed, saying that the “biggest ghost” is the ghost of corruption. According to him, Filipinos are increasingly angry over corrupt projects, especially flood control projects. “Halloween will not be a happy one for the monsters of corruption,” he added.
Tinio and Cendaña also expressed their disappointment that no one has yet been held accountable for the corruption issues. They stressed, “the boredom is real,” as it has been a long time since the President made the announcement but there is still no clear result. They urged the Independent Commission for Infrastructure to present the results of its investigation as soon as possible.
On the issue of the “no gift policy” like the one implemented by Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, Elago agreed that it should be implemented nationwide. According to Cendaña, Robredo and the current vice president are different because “Leni does not have confidential funds that are still unexplained.”
