The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a pickup driver for 90 days after a video of him assaulting an elderly bus driver in Silang, Cavite went viral.
The driver was identified as Arny Jose Montes. He was served a show-cause order on October 19 explaining why his license should not be permanently canceled and why he should not be charged with reckless driving.
Montes was summoned by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division on October 24 to answer charges of Reckless Driving, Obstruction, and being Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle. If found guilty, he could lose his license for life.
According to a police report, the altercation began after Montes' Toyota Hilux collided with a passenger bus. In a video that went viral, he can be seen punching and pushing the elderly bus driver, sparking public outrage.
The LTO also placed the Toyota Hilux on “alarm” status, meaning that no transactions can be processed on the vehicle for now. According to the LTO, the temporary suspension is for public safety while the investigation continues.
