The heavy rains brought by Typhoon Ramil on Saturday, October 18, caused widespread flooding in Roxas City, Capiz. A 44-year-old man from Barangay Dinginan died after being swept away by the water, while his wife survived. Three others were reported wounded.

According to the Roxas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the rainfall reached 400 millimeters from the morning of October 18 to the early morning of October 19. This is almost equivalent to a month's worth of rain, causing the water to rise rapidly, causing flash floods.

Authorities have evacuated more than 830 families or 2,000 people. Most of them are from Graceville Subdivision in Barangay Tiza, where water reached the roofs of houses.

By the morning of October 19, the floodwaters had begun to recede, and some evacuees had returned to their homes to clean up. Authorities advised residents to immediately evacuate to higher ground if the rain intensified and not to attempt to cross the floodwaters.

The quick response of rescuers from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Fire Protection helped save many residents. However, it remains a reminder that flooding is a serious hazard and that crossings should be avoided during high water.
