The Bureau of Immigration (BI) yesterday deported 91 Chinese who were caught working in illegal POGO hubs.
According to the BI, the Chinese workers were flown on a Philippine Airlines bound for Shanghai. The flight was organized by the Chinese embassy to expedite the deportation.
Gilberto Cruz of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission said 91 of the 103 Chinese who were to be deported were among those who were not on board because of pending court cases.
According to BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, this is a clear statement by the government against illegal foreign workers. “We will continue to enforce the law. Those who violate the stay here will be subject to action,” he said.
The BI also assured that they will coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies to continue the campaign against illegal POGO operations.
