A police officer was killed and another was wounded after being shot by a fellow police officer at a checkpoint in Brgy. Gaddangao, Rizal, Cagayan around 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 13.
The deceased was identified as Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) Danilo Binondo from Piat, Cagayan. The injured was PEMS Manuel Deodato from Rizal, Cagayan. The suspect is a Senior Master Sergeant from Tuao, Cagayan.
According to the investigation, the suspect pointed a gun at another police officer with a long firearm. The victims approached him, but they were the ones who were shot. The two were rushed to the hospital but Binondo was dead on arrival, while Deodato is recovering.
After the incident, the suspect attempted to flee but later surrendered to his boss. Currently, the motive of the shooting is still being investigated.
