The interim Mayor of Davao City Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has called on supporters of his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to attend the ICC hearing in The Hague on September 23.
According to Baste, the presence of supporters on the day of the confirmation of charges hearing is important to show that the people's trust and support remain.
“Let's meet here. Let's show our support, as was proven in the 2016 elections and the previous elections. If we are challenged by protest, we will also accept that challenge,” said Baste in an interview.
He added, “Let us gather ourselves peacefully and show our full support to former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.”
Baste's call is intended to boost the morale of supporters and show the world that former President Duterte is not alone in the case he faces at the International Criminal Court.
