The Supreme Court's decision to dismiss the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte has been criticized for using news as a basis.
The 97-page ruling said that House Secretary Velasco sent the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate without a plenary vote. News was the source, but according to Congressional records, 215 out of 306 lawmakers endorsed it before sending it to the Senate.
Because of this, many oppositions have questioned how the highest court can rely on information that contradicts the official record.
In their motion on August 5, the coalition criticized the use of news articles and said it was “incorrect and against the law and public policy.”
Discussion continues on how to explain the discrepancy in the decision and what impact it will have on the credibility of the court.
