
The country celebrated Heroes' Day as President Marcos criticized corruption and abuse of power. According to him, petty corruption should not be tolerated because it gradually destroys society and the future of the next generation.
Marcos said that Filipinos who are honest and serve with loyalty are proof that heroism is still alive. But there are some who prioritize their own interests over the welfare of the country. He also mentioned the importance of critical thinking among young people and teaching them proper social behavior.
The president also praised the heroes who are not written in history, including the farmers, fishermen, teachers, health workers, and laborers who serve others. According to him, fighting corruption and abuse of power is the way to achieve a more prosperous and just Philippines.
Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized that heroes are not just soldiers and OFWs, but every Filipino who strives for change. Meanwhile, Speaker Martin Romualdez encouraged everyone to continue the fight against corruption and apathy so that the sacrifices of heroes will not be in vain.
Heroes' Day is celebrated every last Monday of August in remembrance of the sacrifices of Filipinos for the freedom and good of the country.
