Online gambling operators are starting to move to encrypted messaging apps and e-commerce platforms after tightening their connection to e-wallet services, according to Sen. Erwin Tulfo.
Tulfo said that although e-wallet companies have complied with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' order to remove gambling links since August 14, operators have become increasingly active in shifting their services to other apps such as messaging and online shopping platforms.
Isang halimbawa ay ang mga laro na nananatiling available sa pamamagitan ng messaging apps at sariling website ng operator. Pinapadali pa rin ang deposit at withdrawal gamit ang GCash at Maya para sa mga manlalaro.
In addition, gaming vouchers are also sold as regular products on e-commerce sites. They can be purchased using e-wallets, debit, or credit cards and then converted into gaming credits.
According to Tulfo, the e-wallet companies have taken a good step to help the government in the fight against online gambling addiction. He said the private sector should not be an enemy but an ally to prevent the youth from becoming addicted to gambling.
