A former police officer was killed after being shot inside a cabin in Albuera, Leyte on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Albuera police, the victim is 47-year-old, a businessman and former police officer who lives in Barangay Bagong Buhay. Initial investigation revealed that while a cockfighting match was taking place, he was shot by an unidentified assailant.
Due to the serial shots, people inside the cockpit ran. After this, the victim was found lying down and lifeless. After the shooting, the suspect quickly fled in an unknown direction.
According to Police Captain Jose Bayona, the investigation is difficult because the CCTV inside the cockpit is broken and the people who were last with the victim cannot be found. At the crime scene, several empty bullet shells from a .45 caliber pistol were recovered.
The police are continuing their hot pursuit operation and follow-up investigation to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive for the shooting.
