
The death toll due to the effects of the southwest monsoon and three typhoons — Crising, Dante, and Emong — has reached 34, according to the latest report from the NDRRMC on Tuesday.
In total, only two have been confirmed dead due to the typhoon and southwest monsoon, while 32 are still being verified. Meanwhile, there are 18 injured and 7 missing in various areas.
According to the NDRRMC, more than 1.8 million families or 6.6 million people have been affected by heavy rains and flooding. Of these, 33,694 families (113,646 people) are in evacuation centers, while 21,299 families (80,496 people) are temporarily staying with relatives.
In addition, 161 roads and 17 bridges are still impassable. 13,554 houses were partially damaged and 1,666 houses were completely destroyed. Damage to agriculture is estimated at P1.7 billion and to infrastructure at P7 billion.
According to the NDRRMC, Typhoon Emong left the PAR on Saturday, but many areas in Luzon remain affected. As a result, many classes and government work have been canceled. President Marcos Jr. said Filipinos need to change their perspective and be prepared for the “new normal” brought about by climate change.
