The fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. began with an admission that many Filipinos were disillusioned with government services and ended with a strong promise to go after those behind botched flood control projects.
In the SONA, Marcos discussed important programs such as P20/kilo rice in KADIWA stores, the commencement of the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge, and 40,000 new classrooms before 2028. He also praised the availability of 19,000 free Wi-Fi sites and the provision of free X-rays and check-ups at BUCAS centers.
One of the loudest shouts from the audience was when Marcos promised to release the list of botched flood control projects and hold officials and contractors involved in corruption accountable. In addition, he said he would combat the power shortage, increase employment, and speed up digital services through the eGov app.
In the education and health sectors, Marcos emphasized the integration of tech-voc courses in senior high, free zero balance billing in DOH hospitals, and the YAKAP Caravan program for free check-ups and screening. The government also plans to provide an additional P1 billion for feeding programs and ensure that children's vaccinations are complete.
According to Marcos, the Philippines is ready for investment. He promised to continue low-interest loans for small businesses, increase housing under the 4PH program, and implement electricity, water, and infrastructure projects. He also said there are no remaining rebel groups in the country and will ensure that they never return.
