The House will file a motion for reconsideration against the Supreme Court (SC) decision that declared the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional.
According to House Spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante, the House followed the proper impeachment process based on the Constitution and previous rulings of the Supreme Court. She added that the House respects the court but is concerned about the decision.
“The House, after studying the case, will file an appeal because the SC decision is based on false information and contrary to the official record,” Abante said.
The SC's claim that the House did not approve the sending of the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate is also not true. Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe explained that on February 5, 2025, the motion to send it to the Senate was passed in plenary after obtaining signatures from 1/3 of the members of the House, thus immediately forming a panel of prosecutors.
On the same day, the House also archived three previous impeachment complaints filed in December. According to the Constitution, once enough signatures are obtained, they are automatically considered Articles of Impeachment and must be sent to the Senate for trial.
