A 18-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after getting her hair caught on a carnival ride at the Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show in England.
According to Emma Perry, a 51-year-old nurse who was on the ride with her daughter, the girl slipped on the moving floor and fell backwards. Her hair got caught in the floor rollers.
As a first aider, Perry immediately helped after hearing the victim bleeding. “I saw that about three-quarters of the woman’s scalp was severed,” Perry said. He added that rescuers responded immediately and had to cut off part of the ride to get the girl off the stretcher.
According to carnival owner Charles Cole, the ride's safety check was fine and he called it a "freak accident." He also said that about 50 people had been on the ride before the incident and there were no problems.
The incident is currently being investigated by Hampshire Police along with the Health and Safety Executive. Organisers said they would express their sympathies to the victim and her parents.
