DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla spoke about Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte’s challenge to a fight against PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, which the official accepted. In an interview with DZMM, Remulla said Torre is like a bulldog who will not back down from a fight.
According to Remulla, disputes should be settled in court and not in a fistfight. “Justice or settlement of disputes should not be done fist-to-fist. The rule of law must prevail at all times,” Remulla said. He added that the challenge is not a good example for the youth.
He also criticized Baste for instead of helping those affected by the severe floods in Mindanao, he even provoked a fight. “Even now that many are suffering and flooded, it is better to help than provoke,” Remulla said.
Baste's anger was sparked after Torre was accused of being involved in the arrest and transfer of his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to the ICC in The Hague. There, he will face charges of crimes against humanity for the thousands of deaths in the war on drugs.
In a podcast, Baste challenged Torre to a fight. The PNP Chief accepted and suggested that it be a charity fight to help flood victims.
