
The continuous heavy rains caused by Habagat and Typhoon Crising have caused the death of 6 people, according to a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). Three of the fatalities were from Northern Mindanao, while one each was from Mimaropa, Davao, and Caraga. Most of the incidents were caused by trees falling on houses and motorcycles.
Up to 1.2 million people or 362,000 families have been affected by the heavy floods and rains. Nearly 17,000 individuals have been evacuated to evacuation centers. In Caloocan, three children drowned in Pocalary Creek while playing in the rain. One of them has not yet been found.
Damage to infrastructure is estimated at P413 million and to agriculture at P54 million. More than 1,500 houses have been damaged. A state of calamity has been placed on Umingan, Pangasinan, where more than 22,000 residents have been affected by severe flooding.
The DSWD has released 92,590 family food packs and has 3 million more stored in over 1,000 warehouses nationwide. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said they are ready to assist the LGUs to maintain the continuity of aid.
The DOH reminded people to keep their drinking water clean and to avoid leptospirosis. They have also prepared P31 million worth of medicine and have another P180 million on hand for affected areas.
