A man in Angono, Rizal was arrested by the NBI after he was accused of repeatedly raping his own niece. According to NBI-Cavite North District Office chief Czar Eric Nuqui, the complaint was filed by the victim's mother with the help of an NGO.
The victim, who is now 14 years old, was allegedly abused since she was just 7 years old. The last time the abuse occurred was July 7 of this year. The secret came out when the child and her mother had an argument. In the midst of the anger, the child said that something was happening to her at her grandmother's house.
The NBI said the suspect, who is a relative of the victim's mother, used to help take care of the child after the child's father passed away. Although he is no longer the child's guardian, he still visits and abuses the child. He also allegedly threatened the victim with a gun on several occasions, and threatened to kill the family.
The child did not immediately understand what was being done to him because he was still too young. But because of severe pain and fear, he dared to report the incident. According to NBI Spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin, the arrest of the suspect was a great help for the victim's recovery.
The man denied the accusation, but he was charged under Republic Act 7610, which protects children from abuse and exploitation. The victim is currently in rehabilitation and is being assisted by the DSWD Rape Crisis Center.
