A police officer in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat died after being shot by his father-in-law using his own service gun on Wednesday, June 25. The victim was identified as Staff Sgt. Bobby Vegafria Nanali, a warrant officer and administrative staff at their municipal police station.
According to Major Aljun Besario, police chief in the said town, Nanali and her husband had a heated argument inside their house before the gunshot was heard.
Based on the investigation, Nanali's husband grabbed his gun amidst their shouting and gave it to his mother. This is where Nanali was allegedly shot in the upper abdomen.
The victim was rushed to the hospital by emergency responders, but he could not be saved. Nanali's father-in-law is currently in police custody after he voluntarily surrendered to authorities.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing while the suspect is in detention.
