A taxi driver was shot dead by suspected holdapers in Brgy. Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu early Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as Johnny Burdas, 47 years old, and a resident of Brgy. Bankal.
According to the Lapu-Lapu City Police, at around 1:00 AM, residents heard three gunshots. The next morning, a taxi with license plate MRG-1627 was found parked in a vacant lot. Inside, Burdas was found with a bullet wound to the chest and was dead, with the taxi's engine still running.
P/Lt. Col. Christian Torres said he was first shot from outside the taxi and the bullet penetrated the windshield. The next shot hit him in the shoulder and near the heart, killing him instantly.
Although the motive being investigated is robbery-holdup, police are not ruling out the possibility of personal grudge or love triangle.
CCTV footage in the area is now being reviewed and police are already looking for a person of interest.
