The family of a taxi driver who was killed inside his vehicle in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City is calling for justice. The victim has been identified as Johnny Burdas, 47 years old, a resident of Barangay Bankal. He was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest, while the taxi's engine was still running, on Wednesday morning, July 2.
According to police, residents heard three gunshots around 1 a.m. They noticed a bullet hole in the driver's window and immediately reported it to authorities. When Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) arrived, they found two empty bullet casings next to the vehicle.
In CCTV footage from a nearby establishment, Burdas' taxi was seen stopping and flashing its hazard lights before entering the vacant lot where he was found dead. According to Sara, the victim's wife, the last she heard was Johnny's cellphone ringing because of a booking notification from the Maxim app. She did not know that he had accepted the booking and left without saying goodbye.
The family said they don't know if Johnny had any problems. They believe he may have been robbed because his cellphone and wallet are missing. His daughter, Kyra, said the last time she spoke to her father was when he invited her to dinner around ten o'clock in the evening.
Johnny's family is now demanding justice and calling on the perpetrator to surrender to the police. According to Police Lt. Col. Christian Torres, the investigation and review of CCTV are continuing to identify those responsible for the crime.
