Customs officials in Mumbai, India have once again caught a passenger carrying a live snake from Thailand. According to the report, this is the third time this month such a case has been caught at the airport.
Authorities shared that there were 16 live snakes inside the passenger's luggage. These included garter snakes, rhino rat snakes, and Kenyan sand boas that are often sold as exotic pets. Most of them are non-venomous or have venom that is not dangerous to humans.
The passenger was arrested and the investigation is ongoing. According to wildlife trade monitor group TRAFFIC, cases of illegal wildlife trade are on the rise. More than 7,000 animals, both live and dead, have been confiscated along the Thailand-India route in the past 3.5 years.
