The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) commended the swift action of the Makati City Police Station after apprehending three suspects involved in the theft of fiber optic cables used for the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) at the EDSA-Guadalupe footbridge.
According to MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes, the incident was discovered on June 24 when the CCTV cameras in the area malfunctioned and got disconnected. Investigation revealed that the cable, estimated to be worth PHP 104,000, was stolen and allegedly sold to junk shops.
The suspects were caught when they returned to Guadalupe to attempt theft again. They failed to notice the patrolling police officers. Various cutting tools were confiscated from them.
The three have already undergone inquest proceedings and are still detained at the Makati City Police Station. The MMDA warned that it is against the law to remove or destroy public property.
The MMDA will also coordinate with the Philippine National Police – NCRPO to prevent such incidents in the future.
