A power bank with 72,000 mAh exploded at the security checkpoint of Roxas Airport in Capiz on Tuesday, June 24, according to a report by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
According to CAAP, the power bank was found in the bag of a female passenger who was en route to Manila. It exceeded the 160 watt-hour limit, so it was not allowed on the flight.
The passenger said the power bank was allowed on his trip from Manila. But later, he agreed to give it to his companion outside the terminal.
Habang inaayos ang pagsuko ng item, bigla itong nagliyab at sumabog. Sa kabutihang palad, walang nasaktan at walang malaking pinsalang naidulot.
CAAP reminded that power banks with excessive capacity are prohibited, especially in check-in baggage, as part of safety measures.
