The couple Joselito Eluna and Janice Eluna, both 42 years old and from Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, died after their multicab collided with a pickup truck in Barangay Cabangahan, Siaton on Friday, June 13. Joselito is a multicab driver while Janice is a daycare worker.
According to police investigation, the pickup truck was driven by an 82-year-old man from Bacong. He allegedly lost control while taking a turn and suddenly moved to the opposite lane, causing it to collide head-on with the couple's oncoming multicab.
Due to the force of the collision, Joselito and Janice sustained serious injuries that caused their immediate deaths. For now, authorities are still waiting for the victims' family to decide whether to file charges against the elderly driver.
The police investigation is ongoing to determine whether there was negligence or other factors that caused the incident. This has revived the issue of road safety, especially on curved sections of the national highway, and the ability of elderly drivers to drive safely.
