Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the GR LH2 Racing Concept at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2024. This new concept car is powered by liquid hydrogen and is based on the GR010 HYBRID, which is currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. It is the most advanced hydrogen-powered car Toyota has ever produced.
Toyota has been testing hydrogen in racing for a long time—from the hydrogen-engined Corolla in the Super Taikyu series to the demo run of the GR Yaris H2 in the WRC. But this GR LH2 is a big step towards carbon-neutral motorsport.
GR LH2 aims to advance hydrogen technology—from production to use. It also demonstrates the possibility of using hydrogen not only in everyday vehicles but also in high-performance racing.
It was unveiled at Le Mans' H2 Village while also showcasing Toyota's historical liveries, commemorating its 40-year history at Le Mans. The GR LH2 symbolizes the fusion of tradition and innovation in the world of racing.
The GR LH2 will undergo track testing in the coming months. Toyota will use it to further improve its hydrogen system and strengthen partnerships for a zero-emissions future of motorsport and other transportation.
