The City of Makati has provided six new buses to provide free rides to students in public schools.
Similar to government point-to-point buses, school buses operate on fixed routes and times. They cover barangay centers and school zones in the city.
This program is only for public school students in Makati, according to an announcement by the city government on Wednesday.
The project will be implemented in two phases, with priority given to schools with large student populations. The plan also includes coordination with teachers, parents, and barangay officials for safety and route arrangements.
According to Mayor Abby Binay, the program aims to reduce the cost of transportation for low-income families. “Students will arrive at school safer and earlier, so they can focus more on their studies,” she said in a statement.
