The two men were caught stealing cable wires worth P117,050 in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City on Monday afternoon. According to the report, security guards saw them entering a manhole, so they immediately reported it to barangay officials.
When the guards arrived, they found two men at the bottom of a five-meter-deep manhole. They reportedly almost refused to come inside, but were immediately punished. They were found to be in possession of copper wires and a hacksaw used to cut the cable.
According to PLtCol. Jose Luis Aguirre of the Holy Spirit Police Station, the cables belong to a telecommunications company. The suspects may be selling them for cash. Police are still investigating whether they are part of the group involved in the cable theft in QC.
The two suspects' defense is that they were not the ones who cut the cable. According to one, they were just looking for small pieces of copper to sell, because they had no money and jobs.
They are currently detained at the Holy Spirit Police Station and will face charges under the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013.
