The embassy of South Korea has issued a warning for its citizens following the armed robbery that occurred in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). According to the report, two Korean nationals were robbed by four men riding two motorcycles on 9th Avenue, around 11:40 pm on May 17. Their money and designer bags were taken.
Police immediately dispatched more than 100 police officers to the area to enhance security at BGC. According to Col. Rodel Pastor, the suspects, "Adam" from Caloocan and "John" from Manila, have previous cases such as carjacking and robbery. The two have posted bail but have been charged again with a robbery case.
The embassy advised Koreans in the Philippines to avoid wandering around at night, especially in areas frequented by tourists. Police have also noticed that criminals are posing as delivery riders or drivers to avoid being caught.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has ordered greater police visibility nationwide, especially in areas like Entertainment City in Parañaque and Mall of Asia in Pasay. There are also plans to install multilingual signs and teach basic Korean language to some police officers.
Consul-General Sang Seung-man called on the Philippine government to provide stronger protection to Korean communities in the country. Gilberto Cruz of the PAOCC also said that there is a new step to arrest Rafael Dumlao III, the main suspect in the killing of Jee Ick-Joo in 2016.
