40-pound cat Patches went viral after Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) posted a photo of him on Facebook. Not just because of his gloriously gluttonous body, but also because of his fun-loving appearance and personality. At 40.3 pounds, he is the heaviest cat at their center.
Even though he was neutered, tested, chipped, and ready for adoption, Patches still had a hard time finding a permanent home. Due to his excess weight, he needed someone willing to help him on his weight loss journey. Fortunately, a woman named Kay Ford showed interest and immediately adopted him.
Now, Patches is joined by his new family—a Yorkshire Terrier named Bella and her twin brother, Wellesley. They also created a Facebook page called Patches’ Journey, where they share the progress of his veterinary-supervised diet and exercise plan. They are aiming to lose 20 pounds.
According to his new family, Patches is still able to move around and is not a glutton. In fact, his appetite is still a bit weak as he adjusts. But with the right care and love, his new life will definitely be happy and healthy.
Many netizens were happy with Patches' new beginning. Some said, "He will thrive with love and commitment!" while others prayed for his successful weight loss. He is proof that no matter how 'chonky' you are, you still deserve to be loved.
