A Quezon City police officer and five others were injured after a bus crashed into a stopped UV Express inside the Quezon Avenue Tunnel, Barangay South Triangle, this Wednesday morning, May 14, at around 5:40 a.m.
According to QCPD, a police officer on a motorcycle intervened after the UV Express drivers argued. While they were in the middle of the conversation, a bus suddenly arrived and plowed into the vehicles. The force of the collision the police officer was trapped between the two UV Expresses.
Three passengers of the bus, including the two UV Express drivers, were also injured. According to PLt. Sibyl Anne Armada of QCPD Traffic Sector 4, police are still treating the wounds on the lower body.
Jobert Joson, one of the UV Express drivers, said he could not remember the events that followed the impact. “We just had an argument, but I don’t remember anything after that—I blacked out,” he said.
Alvin Gimena, the bus driver, explained that he did not expect a UV Express to stop in the tunnel. “There was no warning, no lights. So I was shocked,” he said.
Gimena is in custody and could face a case of reckless imprudence. The bus company is said to be ready to cover the medical expenses of those injured.
