The series of road accidents in recent days have been concerned by Senator Raffy Tulfo, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Services. One of the incidents occurred on May 1, where 10 people died and 37 were injured after a crash at the SCTEX Toll Plaza. The cause of the incident was allegedly the driver of the Pangasinan Solid North Transit Inc.
Just a few days later, two people were killed after an SUV crashed into the departure area of NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City. According to reports, the driver panicked and instead of hitting the brakes, he stepped on the accelerator.
According to Senator Tulfo, although many say the accident was unintentional, it was preventable. He criticized the case of the bus driver at SCTEX and requested that an investigation be conducted into whether he was tired or overworked.
The senator added that the LTO should tighten the screening of drivers before issuing licenses. It should be ensured that they have proper driving skills and are mentally prepared, to avoid incidents like the one that happened at NAIA.
Senator Tulfo is calling for stricter laws and compliance with them to protect people against tragedies like this.
