A photo of regulated street vendors seen in Pasig City quickly went viral on Reddit. Reddit user u/pma1919 posted the photo of the vendors with cart numbers and the city government logo on April 29. According to the Redditor, "It's actually from Pasig. I've only seen something like this in NCR."
Many Filipinos liked Pasig's initiative and it helped give street food lovers a sense of security. "I feel more comfortable enjoying street food," he added. The photo received 2,800 upvotes and over 100 comments on Reddit, where Pasig was praised for helping street vendors, not pushing them away.
A Redditor said, "That's how the majority of us should be. Because vendors often kill each other for their jobs." Another commented, "THAT'S IT. ENABLE PEOPLE, NOT THEM, IT'S COMPLETELY BAWAL." Filipinos believe that the government should have solutions like regulations, instead of just removing vendors.
It also went viral on Facebook, where people celebrated the system that gives street vendors the opportunity to sell legally. One Facebook user shared, “They don’t need to hide or be nervous when there are clearing ops, because they’re part of the system.”
Many netizens are thanking Mayor Vico Sotto for these steps to help informal workers and give them the opportunity to work with dignity.
