
Thetragic collision at the SCTEX Toll Plaza (northbound) this Thursday afternoon, May 1, resulted in 12 deaths, according to reports. According to the Philippine Red Cross, four vehicles were involved: a car, a van, an 18-wheeler truck, and a bus.
According to Marvin Guiang, Tarlac PDRRMO chief, six of the fatalities were children and six were adults. In the Nissan Urvan, the driver survived, while in the car, only a child survived. The bus passengers only suffered minor injuries.
Guiang said the vehicles were queued near the toll plaza when the bus arrived, possibly traveling at high speed. It pushed the van and car, causing them to be trapped in the middle.
The bus driver is currently in police custody. According to the Red Cross, 28 others were injured and were immediately brought to the Tarlac Provincial Hospital for treatment.
The PRC Tarlac Chapter sent an ambulance to assist the injured and rescue the victims.
