Senator Risa Hontiveros called for a deeper Senate investigation regarding the alleged pro-China propaganda circulating on social media, which she said has a clear goal of influencing public opinion and interfering in the country's internal affairs.
In his statement at a forum, Hontiveros denounced the statements as undiplomatic language and strikingly similar to narratives that have repeatedly appeared on some online pages. According to him, such rhetoric and language are becoming a familiar mold of disinformation that causes confusion and conflict in society.
The senator insisted that the Senate should continue its investigation to identify those behind the coordinated disinformation machinery, identify who is spreading false information, and ensure that anyone proven to be betraying the country's interests is accountable.
