A 20-year-old woman, a street dweller, was arrested after she kidnapped a one-year-old and seven-month-old child in Barangay San Bartolome, Novaliches, Quezon City on December 10. To this day, the child, identified as Kiana Jane, is still missing.
According to Melvin Lorejas, the child's father, they were preparing dinner outside a convenience store when the suspect offered them a free meal. Wanting to save money, they agreed. After 10 minutes, the woman did not return, which made them nervous.
The suspect was caught on CCTV leaving the convenience store while carrying the child. According to Lt. Col. Michael John Villanueva, the child's parents knew the suspect and apparently entrusted him with the child. When the woman was arrested on December 12, the child was no longer with her.
The suspect's defense is that he took the child because he felt sorry for him. He is now facing charges of child abuse and kidnapping. The police have contacted the barangay to intensify the search for the child.
The father is asking the public, if anyone sees Kiana Jane, to contact the nearest police station or call him at 0912-939-01-38.
