Sony Pictures has officially acquired the screen rights to Labubu, the popular elf-like rabbit from the “The Monsters” collection created by artist Kasing Lung.
Sony has big plans to make a live-action movie based on the global success of Labubu in the collectible market. Given the strong sales and popularity of blind-box toys, they see this as a huge opportunity for the film.
According to initial reports, the project will showcase the unique mix of fantasy, adventure, and mischief that Labubu is known for. The toy has been popular since 2015 and is now being brought to the big screen.
No details have been given about the storyline yet, but the movie is expected to revolve around the vast world of The Monsters universe. Sony aims to combine Asian-inspired characters with Hollywood-level production.
With the development of the Labubu live-action film, there is a good chance that it will become a new international franchise that will take it from toy shelves to the larger entertainment world.
