The 18 police precincts in Mindanao suffered damage after two strong earthquakes on October 10. The tremors reached magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 in Davao Oriental and nearby areas.
According to Police Colonel Esmeraldo Osia Jr., most of the damage was minor damage. However, the Caraga Municipal Police Station in Davao Oriental is no longer safe to live in due to structural damage. For now, the police are in a makeshift post and are even using the former kitchen as an office.
Other precincts remain operational and are assisting in disaster response. In the towns of Mati, Tarragona, Manay, Baganga, and Caraga, some residents evacuated as a precaution.
More than 2,205 police officers have been deployed for relief and recovery. The PNP said the situation is under control, there are no major disruptions to transportation, and peace and order remain intact.
