The Philippines has once again earned a Tier 1 ranking in the United States' 2025 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, for the 10th consecutive year. This is due to the government's continued fight against human trafficking.
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), operations against Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) have been of great help. The raids and cooperation between various agencies have proven the country's full support in protecting against human rights violations.
The TIP Report commended the Philippines for more investigations, prosecutions and convictions against human traffickers, including several corrupt officials. It also cited the government's steps to curb large-scale human trafficking through online scam operations and the banning of POGO licenses.
However, the report emphasized that steps have not been taken to prevent the punishment of trafficking victims. The issue of corruption and collusion among some officials also remains, which hinders swift legal action.
The Pagcor has allocated ₱50 million for the deportation of illegal POGO workers. The DOJ assured that the fight will continue to help vulnerable, abused and exploited Filipinos.
