The University of Tennessee ay maglulunsad ng bagong history class na pinamagatang Grand Theft America: U.S. History Since 1980 through the GTA Video Games. Magsisimula ito sa Enero 20, 2026 at pangungunahan ni Propesor Tore Olsson.
The popular and controversial Grand Theft Auto series will be used in class as the main teaching tool. Through the stories and virtual worlds of the game, important topics such as consumerism, political corruption, the American Dream, and urban decay over the past four decades will be discussed.
According to Professor Olsson, although GTA is fictional, it helps young people better understand the real history of the U.S. from 1980 to the present. The class focuses more on American history, using GTA as a framework for learning.
This course aims to show that the study of history is not limited to books. It becomes more meaningful when using a medium that is close to the students' interests, such as video games.
While fans await GTA 6, Tennessee students are busy analyzing the events and history that influenced the formation of this popular franchise.
