
A male protester in Mendiola died after being stabbed during the riots that took place on Sunday, September 21. Another protester was wounded after being shot and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The two were taken to the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center. One was declared dead on arrival (DOA) due to stab wounds. He was not carrying any identification. The other sustained a gunshot wound and has undergone surgery, and is now being monitored by doctors.
According to the police, up to 93 police officers were injured while 113 protesters were arrested in the violent protest action. Most of the police officers only suffered minor injuries and were released from the hospital immediately.
The Ayala Bridge was reopened to motorists on Monday, September 22. However, PNP riot police and BFP personnel remain in the area to monitor for possible unrest.
A burnt container truck from the riots is serving as a temporary barrier. But both northbound and southbound are still passable, and traffic flow remains light to moderate.
