The Honda CB125F Now Has Start-Stop for Gas Saving

Honda has launched a new update to the CB125F, which now has a start-stop system even though it's manual. This is usually seen in modern cars, where the engine automatically shuts off when stopped in traffic and automatically restarts when moving again. Now, for the first time, it can be found on a manual motorcycle.

The start-stop or idling-stop helps save fuel and reduce smoke. It was previously used on models with CVT or DCT, such as the PCX125 and Gold Wing. But now, it also works on regular manual gearboxes, such as the new CB125F.

Only a few parts were modified to make it work. Since 2021, the CB125F has been using a starter-generator instead of a regular starter. For the 2026 model, it has been supplemented with a more powerful battery and a new ECU that monitors engine speed, throttle, clutch, side stand, and temperature. When the engine is idle, the clutch is pulled in, and it is not moving, it automatically shuts off the engine.

When you open the throttle, the engine also automatically returns. It's very fast and you'll hardly notice it. It works no matter what gear you're in, as long as the engine is in the right condition. It won't work if the engine isn't warm, or if the side stand is down.

You can also turn the system off if you don't want to use it. The system only starts working when you exceed 6mph (10km/h), so it won't suddenly kick in while the car is still warm. This is a step Honda is taking to make driving more fuel-efficient.
