Artificial intelligence or AI is advancing rapidly. Now, it can change bank transfer receipts with just a simple command. A Facebook user warned about this after sharing how a scammer used AI to change the payment amount in a screenshot.
On June 17, a netizen posted a screenshot of the conversation on ChatGPT. In it, the sender requested to change the amount stated in the proof of payment to a higher amount. According to the user, “Be careful. Always check if the money actually entered your account.” He also mentioned that he was fooled after receiving the screenshot but no money entered his account.
It's also important to note that even though the full screenshot has time, battery, and signal icons, the AI still edits it to focus on the transaction itself. Because of this, it's harder to spot if the receipt is fake.
To avoid scams, GCash advises verify fund transfers in the app itself and not rely on screenshots alone. Also, check the reference number on each transaction. Now, GCash notifications are now found in the in-app inbox, no longer in text, to avoid phishing and spam links.
