The driver and attendant of a dump truck were injured after it crashed into concrete barriers and an electric pole in the eastbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, at around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, February 3.
Four concrete barriers were damaged while the pole that was hit was slightly tilted. The force of the impact cracked and completely removed the truck's windshield, causing a dangerous situation on the road.
The truck continued between parked heavy equipment and the fence of the MRT-7 construction site, before finally coming to a stop. According to the driver's statement to responding MMDA personnel, he allegedly dozed off while driving, which caused the accident.
It was learned that the truck was on its way to Rizal to pick up gravel when the collision occurred. The two victims were rushed to the hospital while the QCPD Traffic Sector 5 continues its investigation to determine the full cause of the incident.
Around 5:00 a.m., Meralco crews arrived to repair the fallen pole. The accident did not cause heavy traffic because the truck was just on the side of the road and did not block the main lanes.
