
A 44-year-old man was arrested after a 64-year-old driver stole a taxi and attacked it with an ice pick along Imperial Street, Cubao, Quezon City on Sunday, February 1.
According to Lt. Col. Joy Leanza, chief of the Cubao Police Station, the suspect stopped the taxi at Mindanao Avenue before continuing his journey. According to the victim, the suspect allegedly planned to stop at Nepa Q-Mart before committing the carnapping.
“Upon arriving at Imperial Street, the suspect declared carnapping. He pointed an ice pick at me, forcing me to get off,” the victim said. He immediately grabbed the suspect’s hand, allowing him to get off safely.
After the victim got off, the suspect continued to flee, but the taxi got stuck in traffic on EDSA. He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot until he was arrested next to Nepa Q-Mart, where police were seen in the area.
The suspect admitted to the crime but denied intending to harm the victim. According to police, he was previously imprisoned in 2023 for illegal drugs. He is currently detained at the Cubao Police Station, facing charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act.
